Dawlish Water Woodland Walks

Dawlish Water Woodland Walks

Quiet woodland trails wind through mixed conifer and broadleaf trees at Dawlish Water, a lesser-known corner of Haldon Forest managed by Forestry England. Gravel paths offer straightforward routes suitable for steady walks, with gentle slopes in places leading alongside the upper reaches of the stream that gives the area its name.

The site forms part of the wider Haldon Site of Special Scientific Interest, supporting diverse habitats where birds and other wildlife appear regularly. Binoculars prove useful for spotting activity among the branches or near water edges. Varied tree species create shifting light patterns across the paths, adding interest throughout the year.

Enjoy the views across the valley.

Paths remain well-surfaced with gravel, keeping conditions firm underfoot for most walks. Dogs join on leads, fitting the shared woodland space. The absence of facilities encourages self-sufficient outings, with natural surroundings taking centre stage.

Access stays open around the clock every day, allowing flexible timing for walks. Nearby Haldon Forest Park provides additional trails and amenities for those extending their day outdoors.

Note: there is no formal parking available with limited roadside spaces.
